What is Smart-Metering?

Usually the water and electricity utilities provide one main water meter and one main electricity meter for an apartment building, measuring the whole building. Without sub-metering, water (and often hot water) is paid through strata levies, so every owner pays a share regardless of what they use. Sub-metering installs and monitors an individual meter for each apartment, so each resident pays for their actual usage.

How does your billing work?

We have two simple options. 1. We bill each apartment monthly, directly. 2. We provide the usage data for each apartment through our platform or API, and your strata or property management system bills the residents.

How do my residents pay their invoice?

If billing runs through you, log in to your portal account to see usage and invoices. If residents pay us directly, each resident opens an account with us; we handle onboarding when the building goes live.

What are the costs to me?

Our pricing depends on the building and the service you choose. Typically there is a small fixed monthly service fee per apartment, and water and wastewater are passed through at the utility's rate with no markup. Installation can be funded by the owners corporation up front, or by Smart Metering Australia and recovered over a term agreement. We will give you a written proposal with the numbers for your building before you commit.

Which states do you cover?

We are establishing in Australia from Sydney, starting with New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Contact us for other states.

Do you handle hot water?

Yes. We meter bulk hot water at the apartment and bill it alongside cold water, so residents see one clear invoice.
