What is Smart-Metering?
Usually the water and electricity utilities provide one main water meter and one main electricity meter for an apartment building, measuring the whole building. Without sub-metering, water (and often hot water) is paid through strata levies, so every owner pays a share regardless of what they use. Sub-metering installs and monitors an individual meter for each apartment, so each resident pays for their actual usage.
How does your billing work?
We have two simple options. 1. Smart Metering Australia bills each apartment monthly, directly, based on actual water and/or power consumption. 2. We provide the usage data for each apartment to your strata manager or owners corporation, and they bill you.
I am a new resident, how do I open my account?
Can I read my own meter?
There is no need, Smart Metering receives daily meter reads from our smart metering infrastructure.
How do I pay my invoice?
Log in to your account through our web portal. You can pay by bank transfer, direct debit or card.
I am moving and want to close my account
Do I still have an account with my water utility?
That depends on your building's arrangement. In many buildings the owners corporation holds the account with the water utility (for example Sydney Water or Urban Utilities) and Smart Metering Australia bills each apartment for its share based on the metered usage. Your invoice will say who to contact.
What if I think my bill is wrong?
Contact us before the due date and we will check the meter data with you. Amounts not in dispute are still payable by the due date; anything found in your favour is credited on the next invoice.
